New electric scooter regulations in Dubai

Permitted locations 

Bikers and travellers must ride their e-scooters in the designated locations only. The Dubai administration has provided a list of permitted locations for riding electric scooters. Dubai Internet City, Al Raqqa, Jumeirah Lakes Towers, and 2nd December Street are some areas where you can ride e-scooters without any hassle.

Minimum age criteria 

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has also introduced a minimum age criterion for riding e-scooters in the city. All riders should be 16 years old to drive electric scooters in Dubai. Children below the age of 16 are not permitted to ride e-scooters alone. Riders under the age of 12 should always be accompanied by an adult who is at least 18 years old.

Driving license

All e-scooters riders now need to have a driving license to be eligible to ride e-bikes in the city. Driving an e-scooter without a license can attract a hefty fine or even a ban.

Riding rules for e-scooters 

All e-bikes are only to be ridden on the designated tracks and nowhere else. Using your e-bike on walking or jogging tracks is strictly prohibited. As a tourist, it is important for you to be aware of the e-scooter tracks in the city if you want to avoid a hefty fine.

E-scooter parking 

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has also designated fixed spaces for parking the e-scooters. Securing your e-bikes to lamp posts, sign posts, or streetlights is prohibited. Parking your e-scooters in non-designated stands can attract a fine of 200 DH.

Electric scooter speed limits in Dubai

E-scooter riders are prohibited to ride their scooters with speed limits of more than 40 km per hour. E-scooters must only be ridden on internal roads and not on highways. The maximum speed limit of your e-scooter should not exceed over 20 km per hour. It is also mandatory to always wear a helmet and reflective vests while riding an electric scooter in Dubai.

Regulations regarding road accidents 

Dubai is witnessing a surge in road accidents. And the administration expects travellers to take full precautions for avoiding mishappening on roads. For this, all the riders are required to leave a safe distance between themselves and other bikers and pedestrians.

In case of any road accidents, the incident must be immediately reported to the RTA, police, or ambulance.

Other requirements 

Tourists are also required to install certain other elements to their e-scooters. It is mandatory to have a red night light, white lights, a horn connected to the handlebars, and a red reflector installed on the rear of the scooter.

E-scooters should always be ridden in an upright manner. Riders are also prohibited to carry pillion travellers on their e-bikes.
